Hockey is Ontario's marquee betting sport
No sport is closer to home for Ontario bettors than hockey. The NHL season runs October through June, and the province has two teams of its own — the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators — plus a national following for every Canadian club come playoff time. Interest peaks during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when futures and series prices move fastest.
The markets you'll see
- Moneyline — pick the winner outright, including overtime and the shootout.
- Puck line — hockey's spread, almost always set at ±1.5 goals.
- Totals (over/under) — the combined goals, typically around 5.5 or 6.
- Period betting — results for a single period rather than the full game.
- Player props — goals, assists, points and shots on goal — and live betting through all three periods.
- Futures — Stanley Cup, conference, division and award markets.
Betting on hockey legally in Ontario
Only iGaming Ontario–registered, AGCO-regulated operators may legally take hockey bets from Ontario residents. Every book we cover is on that registry. Our independent reviews — scoring market depth, in-play tools, payout reliability and compliance record — are in progress, and we never publish a rating before a review is finished.
