The product
888 was one of the day-one operators on Ontario’s regulated iGaming market when it opened on April 4, 2022. The brand is among the oldest in online gambling — 888 launched in 1997, headquartered in Gibraltar, and has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 2005. In May 2024 the parent company, 888 Holdings plc, completed a rebrand to evoke plc (LSE: EVOK), a change approved by 99.7% of shareholders. The consumer-facing brands — 888casino, 888sport, 888poker, and the group’s other names William Hill and Mr Green — continue to operate under their original identities; only the holding company changed. So a 2026 player is using “888 Casino,” but the operator-of-record sits inside the evoke group.
The Ontario operating entity is VHL Ontario Limited, per the iGO operator registry (verified May 7, 2026). The registry lists VHL Ontario as running three brands in the province: 888 Casino (casino), 888 Poker (poker), and 888 Sport (sports betting). The poker product in particular is notable — 888poker is one of the larger regulated online poker rooms, and Ontario is one of the few North American markets where it operates legally.
For Ontario players, 888 is a casino-and-poker-first heritage operator. It does not market as aggressively as the US-coded brands (DraftKings, FanDuel), and its product reflects a longer, steadier operating history. The most useful signal for a prospective player is the compliance record, covered below — it is one of only two clean records among the operators we cover.
We have not lived with 888 Ontario through our six-week test window. The 8.6/10 rating is preliminary, built from public registry data, 888’s own published payment and support pages, app store ratings, and the AGCO’s enforcement record. The cashier benchmark grid is placeholder data and will be populated only after we complete a funded test cycle.
Games & live dealer
888’s Ontario catalogue is mid-sized and, like several competitors, reported inconsistently. Casino.org’s 2026 review headlines “1,200+ games”; 888’s own and other 2026 sources cite “more than 2,000.” We report the range — approximately 1,200 to 2,000+, with roughly 2,000 as a working high estimate — and flag the uncertainty rather than picking the flattering figure. The slot side runs to 1,500+ titles including 125 casino-exclusives playable only at 888 Ontario. Even at the high end, the library is lighter on raw count than LeoVegas (~3,000+) or BetMGM (~2,500+), though it is strong on curated exclusives.
Where 888 is genuinely strong is the live dealer hall. The casino offers 440+ live dealer games on Evolution Gaming and Playtech, including 30 exclusive 888 live tables — roulette and blackjack hosted in several languages. The exclusive-table count is meaningful: most Ontario operators run the standard shared Evolution lobby, while 888 has invested in branded private tables. For live dealer players, this is 888’s best argument, and it places the brand among the top live offerings in the market alongside LeoVegas.
Cashier & payouts
888’s cashier is a relative strength, particularly on the point that trips up some competitors: Interac works for both deposits and withdrawals. Where LeoVegas restricts Interac to deposits only, 888 supports it end-to-end, which matters in a market where Interac is the default Canadian rail.
The published picture:
- Payment methods: Interac, Visa, and Apple Pay support both deposit and withdrawal; Mastercard and Paysafecard are deposit options; MuchBetter is also supported.
- Minimum withdrawal: C$10 (one source cites C$5; we report the more commonly stated C$10).
- Withdrawal time: Interac cashouts are quoted at 1–3 business days, with some sources citing 2–4 days. 888 states it aims to process withdrawal requests internally within one working day before the payment-rail clock begins.
This is competitive without being best-in-market — faster than LeoVegas’s 2–5 business days, slower than bet365’s claimed 1–4 hours. We have not yet run our cashier benchmark on 888; the medianPayout, sameDayRate, and frictionEvents fields are placeholders set to “Pending live test.” Treat the 1–3 business-day window as the operator’s claim, not our finding.
Support & mobile
Support is well-rounded. 888 Ontario offers 24/7 live chat (accessible when logged in), phone support on a toll-free line during 8 AM–12 AM ET, and email at support-on@888.ca. The combination of round-the-clock chat plus daytime phone is among the more complete support stacks in the market, though the chat’s login requirement is a minor friction for players locked out of their accounts (email is the fallback there).
On mobile, 888 runs a dedicated Ontario casino app alongside web access. The ratings are solid mid-tier: iOS sits around 4.4–4.5 stars from 34,000+ reviews, and Android around 4.3 stars from 25,000 reviews. Competent and stable, but below the best-in-class scores at bet365 (4.7 iOS) and BetMGM (4.8 iOS sportsbook). App reviewers generally praise reliability; as always, we weigh app store sentiment against dispute-focused platforms.
Compliance record
This is where 888 distinguishes itself, and it does so by absence.
We surfaced no published AGCO monetary penalty against 888, 888 Casino, or VHL Ontario Limited through searches of the AGCO’s enforcement notices, news releases, monetary-penalties schedule, and the iGaming complaints page, as of the publication date of this review. Among the operators we cover, only 888 and bet365 carry no published AGCO sanction. Every other operator in our coverage — DraftKings (C$100,000), BetMGM (C$48,000 + C$110,000), FanDuel (C$350,000), and LeoVegas (C$25,000) — has at least one published fine.
Absence of public enforcement is not proof of flawless operation; AGCO actions can be private, settled, or pending, and a clean public record over four years is partly a function of conservative marketing and partly luck. But it is a meaningful signal in a market where most large operators have been disciplined publicly at least once. We weight it accordingly.
One piece of corporate context worth flagging, separate from compliance: the parent’s 2024 rebrand to evoke plc was explicitly part of a “Value Creation Plan” framed as a reset of the group’s operating model toward sustainable profitability. evoke has been under financial and strategic pressure as a group. This has no direct player-facing impact we can identify — the Ontario product, licensing, and player protections are governed by the AGCO regardless of the parent’s share price — but anyone weighing the long-term stability of the operator should be aware the parent is mid-restructuring.
We will update this section if and when the AGCO publishes anything new.
Verdict
For Ontario players who value a clean regulatory record, a deep live dealer hall with genuine exclusive tables, full Interac support including withdrawals, and the steadiness of a brand that has operated since 1997, 888 is one of the stronger casino-first options in the province. The 8.6/10 reflects a well-rounded product with a standout compliance signal, held back mainly by a mid-sized catalogue and app ratings that are good rather than great.
Who it suits: live dealer players (440+ games, 30 exclusive tables), players who specifically weight a clean AGCO record, poker players (888poker is a serious product), and players who want Interac end-to-end without the deposit-only restriction some competitors impose.
Who it doesn’t suit: players who want the absolute largest game library (888 trails LeoVegas and BetMGM on count), players who want fastest-in-market payouts (888’s 1–3 business days is solid but not the quickest), and players who weight a parent company’s financial stability heavily (evoke is mid-restructuring, though the Ontario product is AGCO-governed regardless).
